We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Database Platforms team at Endress+Hauser InfoServe, which provides central platforms and engineering support within our group, powering key areas within the Endress + Hauser business. With your technical expertise, you'll design, implement and improve processes, procedures and automation for all data-centric platform areas. We are open to a range of experience from recent computer science graduates with some internship experience, tech apprentices and more experienced engineers.

This role would be ideally suited to someone with a passion for working with database platforms and building a strong foundation for the rest of the IT systems. This would be suited to professionals coming from backgrounds including Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Systems Engineering, or Software Development with a keen interest in working with database platforms, automation and scripting.


Which tasks will you perform?  
You will:  

  • Be part of a small and motivated team that provides different platforms for the entire Endress+Hauser Group.
  • Ensure a stable and highly available operation of our platforms with a focus on PostgreSQL and several NoSQL databases.
  • Provide support in day-to-day business, in the implementation of various innovative IT projects.
  • Work with business-critical data and ensure stability, security, availability and scalability of systems.
  • Establish and enhance future technical platform architectures.
  • Continuously improve and develop new automation and scripting solutions for our heterogeneous database infrastructure.
  • Engineer and enhance tooling used by the wider IT organisation.
  • Perform operational DB duties in a large-scale, complex environment, including patching, environments cloning, database upgrades, troubleshooting, implementing backup and monitoring procedures.

 

What do we expect from you?  
You:  

  •  A degree in Computer Science (or related field), an IT related apprenticeship, or other relevant training.
  • Good understanding of database technologies.
  • Sound knowledge of the architecture and operation of large database landscapes: relational, NoSQL, scalability, performance, data integration, security, etc.
  • Experience in designing, administering and maintaining HA and DR environments including several integration platforms automation.
  • Good knowledge of Linux and experience with automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform).
  • Good knowledge of programming shell and scripting languages (Bash, Python, Go etc.).
  • Analytical skills, technical affinity and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires quick problem-solving and effective troubleshooting.
  • Working proficiency with German and English.

 

Nice to have (don’t worry if you don’t have all of them, we provide excellent on the job coaching from experts in the industry!):

  • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux based environments. 
  • Knowledge in operating and managing large database platform environments.
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Extensive experience with database technologies and architecture (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, MongoDB etc.).
  • Passion for Open Source Software.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
