Miller Mechanical Specialties Inc., a manufacturer's representative partner company of Endress+Hauser Inc., is looking for a  Senior Accountant well versed in complicated cost accounting to join their team. This position will be responsible for customer invoicing, complex cost accounting, commissions, day-to-day accounting activities, and assisting with the monthly close. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience and strong accounting skills to join a small, high-growth, 60-year-old business with a fun work environment. This position will be working out of their office in downtown Des Moines. 

Role + Responsibilities

Duties to include but not limited to:

• Oversee the creation of customer project invoices, ensuring accuracy in cost verification, determination of sales tax, and commission allocation
• Process commission reports and ensure timely and accurate compensation to sales personnel
• Code and enter accounts payable, ensuring that vendor invoices and payments are handled efficiently and in compliance with company policies
• Post customer receipts, resolve discrepancies, and proactively contact past-due accounts to facilitate timely collections
• Prepare and review general ledger entries, maintain financial records and files, and reconcile accounts to maintain accuracy and compliance
• Process and review expense reports to ensure proper documentation and compliance with company policies
• Review income and expense accounts for correct classification and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Collaborate in the preparation of month-end financial statements by gathering and analyzing data from the general ledger to provide meaningful financial insights
• Address accounting and financial inquiries by conducting research and interpreting data to support informed decision-making
• Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive financial information and data

Qualification + Profile

• Accounting degree
• Experience in complex cost accounting, invoicing customers, verifying costs and determining sales tax status
• Minimum three years accounting experience, preferably in a distribution environment
• General understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Knowledge of sales and use tax
• Previous experience with ERP systems
• Excellent organization and analytical skills
• Strong work ethic and detail oriented
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Office products, with advanced Excel skills required.
• Able to multi-task and effectively prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Positive personality and a willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships
